The Stairway to Heaven¶
The Stairway to Heaven, published in 1980, is the second book in Zecharia Sitchin's Earth Chronicles series. It focuses on the Anunnaki space connection β the "stairway" or "path" to heaven that was established between Earth and Nibiru.
Overview¶
The central thesis of the book is that the Anunnaki maintained a spaceport on Earth, located in the Sinai Peninsula, and that the pyramids and other megalithic structures were part of this spaceport's guidance and landing infrastructure. Key topics include:
- The Spaceport β The Anunnaki landing site in the Sinai
- The Great Pyramid β The Giza pyramid as a navigation beacon
- Baalbek β The megalithic platform as a launch pad
- The Landing Corridor β The alignment of sites from Baalbek to Sinai
- The Sphinx β The guardian of the spaceport
- Gilgamesh and the Quest for Immortality β The Sumerian king's journey to the spaceport
The Sinai Spaceport¶
Sitchin identifies the central Sinai plateau β specifically the area around the mountain known to the Egyptians as the "Stairway of the Gods" β as the primary spaceport of the Anunnaki. The two main landing corridors were aligned with prominent peaks:
"It was a place of great precision. The landing path, marked by the peaks of Ararat, the twin peaks of the Mount of the Crossing (the Moriah in Jerusalem), and culminating at the spaceport in Sinai, was exactly oriented to the Giza pyramids and the Baalbek platform."
The "Stairway"¶
The "stairway to heaven" (Sullam in Hebrew) referred to in the biblical account of Jacob's dream was, in Sitchin's reading, a literal description of a launch pad:
"He dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it." (Genesis 28:12)
This "ladder" or "stairway" was the rocketship (SHEM) platform at the Jerusalem temple mount β the "Mount of the Crossing" (Moriyah).
The Giza Connection¶
Sitchin argues that the Great Pyramid was not a tomb but an advanced navigational instrument:
- Its precise orientation to true north
- Its internal chambers aligned to the stars of Orion's belt and Sirius
- Its construction with astronomical and geodetic knowledge
- Its function as a beacon for spacecraft approaching the Sinai spaceport
Key Arguments¶
The Gilgamesh Narrative¶
The book includes a detailed analysis of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which Sitchin reads as a historical account of a Sumerian king's journey to the Anunnaki spaceport in search of the secret of immortality. Gilgamesh travels to the Tilmun (the "land of the rocketships") and meets Utnapishtim (the Sumerian Noah), who tells him the story of the flood.
Baalbek¶
The massive stone platform at Baalbek in Lebanon, with stones weighing up to 1,200 tons, is identified by Sitchin as the original launch pad for Anunnaki rocketships. No known ancient technology could have moved stones of this size.
