Nibiru kritika (Nibiru Criticism)¶
The existence of Nibiru as described by Zecharia Sitchin is not supported by mainstream astronomy.
Astronomical Objections¶
- Orbital Mechanics β A planet with a 3,600-year orbit as described would be detectable
- Gravitational Effects β Such a planet would cause observable perturbations in the orbits of outer planets
- Infrared Signatures β A large planet would be visible in infrared surveys
- No Evidence β Decades of astronomical surveys have found no evidence of such a planet
Planet Nine¶
The scientific search for "Planet Nine" (Batygin & Brown, 2016) is sometimes confused with Sitchin's Nibiru, but they are different concepts: - Planet Nine: Neptune-sized, 10,000β20,000-year orbit - Nibiru (Sitchin): Earth-sized, 3,600-year orbit
