Pyramid Wars

The Pyramid Wars were the series of conflicts among the Anunnaki that form the central narrative of Zecharia Sitchin's The Wars of Gods and Men (1985). These wars were fought over control of Earth's spaceport facilities and the supremacy among the gods.

The Causes

The Pyramid Wars had multiple causes:

  1. Marduk's Ambition β€” Marduk, firstborn son of Enki, sought supremacy over the other Anunnaki and control of the spaceport
  2. Enlil vs. Enki β€” The ancient rivalry between the two brothers intensified as Marduk challenged Enlil's authority
  3. The Spaceport β€” Control of the spaceport at Sippar and the navigation beacons at Giza and Baalbek
  4. Human Kingdoms β€” The Anunnaki factions backed different human rulers and city-states
  5. Territorial Disputes β€” The division of Earth's lands among the gods

The Course of the Wars

Phase 1: Marduk's Rise

Marduk established his power base at Babylon and sought to elevate it above Nippur, Enlil's command center. He was aided by his father Enki and opposed by Ninurta (the warrior son of Enlil).

Phase 2: The Confrontation

The conflict escalated: - Marduk seized control of Sippar, the spaceport - Enlil demanded the return of the spaceport - Ninurta led military campaigns against Marduk's forces - The "Tower of Babel" incident β€” Marduk's attempt to build a rocket launch tower

Phase 3: The Nuclear Strike

Enlil authorized a nuclear strike against Sippar and Ur to prevent Marduk from seizing the spaceport permanently. The weapon was delivered by Ninurta and possibly Nergal.

Phase 4: The Aftermath

  • The spaceport was destroyed
  • Marduk fled into exile (to Egypt and the Americas)
  • Enlil's authority was damaged
  • The Anunnaki gradually withdrew from Earth

The "Pyramid" Connection

The wars are called "Pyramid Wars" because Sitchin argued that the pyramids at Giza were part of the spaceport infrastructure. The Great Pyramid served as a navigation beacon, and control over it was strategically vital.

Cuneiform Evidence

The Pyramid Wars as a term is Sitchin's own construct, but the conflicts between the Anunnaki are attested in several Mesopotamian mythological texts that describe divine warfare.

  • CDLI Corpus: Marduk β€” Browse tablets mentioning Marduk, the central figure of the Pyramid Wars
  • Key tablet: The Enuma Elish (CDLI P450752) describes Marduk's celestial battle with Tiamat and his rise to supremacy. The Marduk Prophecy and Nabu Prophecy texts describe the political struggles between gods. The Lamentation over the Destruction of Ur (CDLI P348534) documents the destruction that Sitchin linked to the Pyramid Wars.
  • Lamentation over Ur The Lamentation over the Destruction of Ur, describing the cataclysmic events Sitchin linked to the Pyramid Wars. (CDLI P348534)
