Baalbek
Baalbek (ancient Heliopolis) is an archaeological site in eastern Lebanon, best known for its monumental Roman temple complex. Beneath these Roman structures lies one of the greatest mysteries of ancient engineering: the Baalbek megalithic platform, also known as the Great Terrace or Temple of Jupiter foundation.
The Megalithic Stones
The platform at Baalbek contains some of the largest cut stones ever used in construction:

Sitchin’s Interpretation
To Zecharia Sitchin, Baalbek was the most important physical evidence of the Anunnaki presence on Earth. He identified it as the primary launch pad for Anunnaki rocketships (SHEM):
“Baalbek was not built by the Romans, nor by the Phoenicians. Its megalithic platform is the remnant of an Anunnaki spaceport facility — the ‘landing place’ from which the rockets of the gods ascended to heaven.”
Sitchin noted several key points:
- Unmatched scale — No ancient or modern technology known to conventional history could have quarried, transported, and lifted stones of this weight
- Precision fit — The trilithon stones fit together with tolerances of fractions of a millimeter
- Original purpose — The platform predates all known civilizations, with occupation layers going back to the 7th millennium BCE
- Strategic location — Baalbek sits at a key geographical point in what Sitchin called the “landing corridor”

The Name Baalbek
Sitchin notes that the name “Baalbek” derives from “Ba’al” (Lord) + “Bek” (Beka’a valley). Ba’al was another name for the god Marduk/Hadad, the storm god. However, the site’s original Sumerian name may have been connected to Enlil, the commander of the spaceport.
